Image Compositing

Hybrid imagery is an image in which a picture can be looked at in one of two ways, depending on the viewing distance or based on the way people look at and process the photo. The rule of thirds is a composition in photography and is applied by aligning a subject guidelines and it's intersecting points. This composition can enhance an image by cropping the image and repositioning it to focus on the subjects in your photo. The rule of thirds can be broken; however, it can make your photos look unbalanced or uninteresting, so if you intentionally "break" this rule, you have to make sure that it is effective. I believe that all photos should not be edited because I believe that it would take away the nature of it or to me, edited photos just look weird or it does not look like a natural picture to me.

For our class, we had to make a three plans about our image concept and make it in Photoshop and have a message included in our picture. My strongest message that I hope will communicate with my audience will be "Look On The Bright Side of Every Situation". The reason why this is my strongest message is because, in my opinion, I feel like during most situations we always look on the worst side and think of all the negativity of it. To make this image, I will take a picture of a flower and a person's eye and I will replace the pupil of the eye with the flower. I will position it to have the phone be taken eye level. When the audience looks at my photo, I hope that their eyes goes to the pupil where the flower will be because it's unique.

Visual Statement

In this project, I worked with my classmate, Nic Bloss. What we had to do was make a 2-3 minute visual statement on a topic that is important to us and would be relevant to our audience. The topic we chose for this project was fitting in and the message that we hope to get out is how it seems like fitting in is hard these days because most times we never feel like ourselves or we always feel like we aren't part of the group of friends that we have or even finding anyone to relate to or find something in common with someone. It is important to me because I personally had a tough time fitting in and most days I still feel like I don't belong and I feel like there is no one out there who can relate to me. Nic's role in this project is writing the visuals for this video. What he does is creates the scene correspondent to the audio portion of the video, figures out where the camera angle is, and how long that part of the video will be.

Final Cut Pro is a video editing app on our Mac Computers that we used to edit our visual statement. We used the Speed Ramp/ Slo-mo tool to speed or slow some parts of our video up or down and Graphic Match Cut to cut parts of our video out and do a motion between two videos. It is important to use FCPX Libraries, Events and Projects properly because it keeps our work organized and makes it easy to find. Audio levels in different clips can vary drastically because if there is wind, it can cut out our voice in the voice-over and completely cut us off while we record and just ruin the whole thing or if we are in a quiet spot (e.g. the library) it turns out more better because then our voice would be more louder and more clearer and we wouldn't risk our voice getting lost in the wind. Also we used headphones with a microphone to record it that way it could catch our voice much more than any other noise around us.

Audio/Visual Log

I think the biggest challenge that we had during this project is having to figure out when and where to get the visuals and having to plan out our shots since we both have practices for sports and other things for family and school. I think we both had the driving force to get things done even though we didn't know how to make the time to get everything done, but I have to say that Nick was more driven to get everything done, as he was asking me for things such as my family picture or playing sports, as it says in the script. He was definitely on top of everything this entire project. During this class, we would ask each other and figure out when to take these videos. I have to say the most enjoyable part of this project has to be working together, having other classmates help us with the visuals, and just edit them all together to make our finished video. The photo below is the results of what our classmates gave us and in the final evaluation, the highest score we got was professional. I somewhat agree with this because I would say our editing skills were not that good as we did not have much visuals but in my opinion, it overall turned out to be a very well video.

Modern Art Movement

For this presentation, I once again paired up with my good friend and classmate, Anijah-Rose, and our presentation was on Feminist Art. The movement that gave the rise to Feminist Art is the Feminist Theory. What this theory is, exactly, the extension of feminism into theoretical, fictional, or philosophical discourse. It also aims to understand the nature of equality for both men and women. The artist contribute to this culture with their art by, obviously, creating art that shows about the equality both men and women should have and how women should be who and what they want to be. I myself am not a feminist, but after making this presentation, I believe that women should have equal rights, pay, etc. as men. Since I also love to draw and do art, I love how artists use this movement through art to show that women should have equal rights as men.

Cleaning The Drapes by Martha Rosler
Martha Rosler created this image above. This piece is called Cleaning The Drapes. I think that what they were hoping to communicate is how women just stay home and be housewives or clean or do "easy work" while men should do "harder work" such as going to war or being mechanics etc. I don't think that a single artist can persuade someone's opinion of feminism because, in my opinion, people can believe what they want to believe. Men can believe that women should stay home and clean the house or cook dinner, etc. while men supposedly "work hard" and "earn money". I think that advances in technology aided (helped) the cultural impact because it can allow women from any part of the world share their opinion and speak out world wide.

Workplace Safety Video

In this project, we had to work in teams to make a safety video, with each team choosing one topic and recording and editing the video about that one particular topic. For my team, I had my fellow classmates Anijah and Micheal and the topic we did was preparing for high risk activities. I'm glad that I had them in my group because they were really fun and amazing to work with. What we did in this project was work together to write our script, figure out what each of us were going to do, and record for our voice over and video presentation while showing a visual of how to sit, stand and use stairs properly. We also had to figure out a way to record everything without distractions or without a windy place for our voice over. I feel like Anijah deserves recognition for giving her best effort because she came up with the idea and stayed on task. She was also the one who knew how to edit our videos together using the IMovie app and helped us position ourselves to record the video and get our angles and any other things we needed to do for our video, so basically the director of the video.

Workplace Safety Video Script

The biggest 'takeaway" from this project is the audience being entertained when Micheal fell down the stairs. It seems that the audience remembered that particular scene and was a class favorite.
What I learned about our workplace safety is if you don't have proper posture while sitting or standing, you can have back injuries. Also when using the stairs, you should always be careful about going up or down the stairs that way others and yourself don't get badly injured. Our highest scoring area for our presentation was our entertainment value, which scored a 3.9 on the chart below. Our lowest scoring area we got was clarity of audio, which scored a 3.1. I think what our team could have done differently, with the projects variables, is work on the steadiness of the camera and work on getting different angles to increase the production of our finished video.

Art and Design

Still Life Painting

The Elements of Art that is used in my digital Still Life painting is texture and line. I used the line to trace the outline of the rose and pocket-watch as well as the numbers, petals, stem and leaves. I used the texture to create lines and shadows to add to the drawing. The texture brush helps because it is smaller and it can be used to help shadow or add detail while having more control. The part of this process I find most enjoyable is finishing this painting all together and seeing the end result of it. The part I find most monotonous is having to put in the detail and redoing it if I mess up.

Landscape Pencil Drawing

This picture above is my pencil drawing in photoshop that we did in our class. In this part of our assignment, we had to take a landscape drawing that either we took or from a website that gives us rights to use it, and turn it into a pencil drawing. For me, I took it from a website called Pixabay. I did not really have the time to take my own landscape due to basketball, chores and schoolwork. The difference between my landscape image and my still image is that my landscape looks more like a pencil drawing and was more or less easier or difficult whereas my still drawing was done by hand and I had to put in more of the detail and shading. I used more of the basic beginning tutorial while including the paper texture. It affected the outcome by looking like a pencil drawing but I would have been a bit more happy with it because I'm a bit of a perfectionist, but since it is my first year using photoshop, I plan on practicing and achieving on what my goal was in this class, which was to   improve my editing skills.

My brother, Ty and my pet dog, ChaCha

This last picture is a mix between the still life drawing and pencil drawing from the last two pictures. It was taken in my yard at home. In the picture is my little brother, Ty, and my dog, Chacha. I took this picture when we first got our dog nearly 3-4 years ago. This image means a lot to me because they are two of the most important things in my life and I love them with all my heart. The elements of arts I used is line, texture and value. Below is my critique results from my classmates. Eighteen people in my class said that my landscape image is professional. I agree with my results because in my opinion, my landscape drawing is the best out of the three. The reason why is I didn't finish my still life or my mix image.

Audio Production

Intonation and inflection can be used to maintain the interest of your audience because you can use it to make the information either entertaining or important. You can also use it to grab your audiences attention on what you are saying. In our assignment, we answered reviewed questions in the chapter we have read and put them into script form explaining everything from the chapter and use the personality of a game show host, radio, or newscaster. Three of us were the vocal talent (using the radio personality) while the team leader recorded and directed us or telling us if we have made a mistake. This job required us to speak in a non-monotone voice and keep it interesting while giving information and answering questions about the chapter. The rehearsal process before recording the script in one take in very important because it can help us practice how we can talk without a monotone voice or if we don't do a perfect take, we would have to stop our recording and start all over again, which isn't bad if you are only a few lines in, but if it is close to the end and someone messes us, you would have to stop, delete the recording, and go all the way back to the beginning to start again.

Our team did pretty well on our project. Our highest score on our presentation was the use of intonation and inflection. The obstacles we faced along the way is trying to take our recording in one take as we kept messing up. It took at least three to four times to make it just right. Another obstacle we had to take is speaking loud and clearly instead of mumbling under our breaths. If I had to do this project again with the same group, I think we can improve by working on making our voices more clearly and rehearsing our lines more that way we won't mess up on our speeches.

Proprietary Information

Copyright infringement is using someone's work without permission and the legal consequences of this is a 200-150,000 dollar fine and if you don't pay, you have to spent time in jail. You can get permission by using these steps; determine if permission is needed, identify the owner, identify the rights needed, plan ahead for permission, contact the owner and see if there is payment required for their work, and lastly get your permission agreement in writing. Fair use is copying any copyrighted material but only for a limited and transformative purpose. It can also be done without permission from the copyright owner. One example of fair use is commentary or criticism, in which we can quote songs and saying by famous people or critique. Another example of fair use is parody, in which people take a well-known work and imitate it in a comedic way.

Confidentiality is something that is meant to be kept a secret or to be kept hidden unless you tell a person you really trust. Examples on information that you must keep private is social security number, house address, and personal information. The impact social media has on confidential information is everyone putting their location where everyone can see and know their location on where they are at the moment or even at the places they often hang out, not to mention putting their phone numbers and email addresses online. In the First Amendment, it states that people have the freedom of speech where you can say something, someone can record it and it is uncensored and all over social media and everything. In my opinion, most things people say should be kept private. This also relates to the Fifth Amendment, in which it states people's right to privacy. The reason why it does is because things like personal information, location, etc., people could stalk you or use your information to scam yourself or even others.
